Rice Paper Screens & Room DividersRice paper, as used in rice paper screens and room dividers, is a nonfibrous, delicate, paper-like material made from the pith of the rice paper tree in Japan and China. The pith of the tree is cut into thin layers of a texture similar to ivory. It has an odd name in that it is not really similar to paper in its properties and it's not made of rice. In the Asian world, especially in the Japanese and Chinese cultures, rice paper is used for painting and calligraphy and is well suited to use in screens and room dividers with oriental decorative accents. A great selection of rice paper screens furniture can be found at Stacks and Stacks | |
